Charlotte Offshore Sportfishing Club and Ocean Isle
Fishing Center Top the
Board at 2007 “Challenge”
Long Bay Artificial Reef Association’s 10th annual Club
Challenge was held at Southport Marina Saturday September 22nd with the awards
ceremony at the Oak Island VFW Hall.
Saturday was a beautiful day for fishing as the 38-boat
field had lines in at 7:00 am, but unfortunately not for catching. With only
the top five fish from each club counting for the overall win and a maximum of
three from one boat could be counted, competition was tight.
The flounder Division had a new twist this year as all
flounder brought in alive would earn the angler and club10% bonus pounds.
Students from the South Brunswick High School Aquaculture class were on hand
to weigh, secure and transport the fish to the school. They will attempt to
spawn and raise them to a suitable size for releasing into the wild.
There were only 11 flounder weighed in for the event but 9 of these were alive
and in good condition. Great job by all anglers.
